What is Man Of The Match (motm)?

MOTM is a soundclash event where some of the hottest underground dj’s go head to head in competition to fight for an audiences love and appreciation so that they can be named “man of the match”.

The dj’s are given three categories in which they must present the best sets (each set being roughly 7mins/8mins long in duration.

How we’re looking to develop: we’re currently in pursuit of finding a collaborator/sponsor (who is in-line with our branding) that can assist us in growing our marketing & promotion, live streaming and curation of man of the match.

Sket/motm branding: sket overall is built upon a foundation of being “relaxed and informal”. We like things to be a little rough around the edges and where possible we try to be as transparent as possible both publicly and behind the scenes.

For us as a brand, minimalism is very important, especially under the context of sound-clashing. It’s our belief that artist’s should be highlighted, in order to do this most affectively everything else has to be stripped back.

So far across all our events (not just motm); over 70% of the dj’s hired by us identify as female. Over 60% can be identified as POC.

So far we haven’t graced one venue more than once with this particular event, this is decision made on purpose. We want to keep things interesting and constantly engage different crowds.

We have also recently made the decision to have alternating hosts who are either from a music background, or in some way intertwined with the culture of this event.

Target audience: Eventually (somewhere long down the line) our aim will be to target different groups and ages by hosting soundclash events that involve DJ’s from different musical backgrounds. However, for now we are aiming to draw in crowds who fit in with skets general demographic.

We currently see 20 to 29 years old walking through our doors for this event and we don’t plan on having that change soon. Sket (previously known as South West 4) is a brand born out of South London on the inspiration of the SW4 area that was/has been diverse in backgrounds. Our general sket audience so far has been culturally diverse and this is something that we are very proud of.

Marketing and promotion: For a winner to be decided, audience members have to engage in a vote (so far held on instagram); due to this, we always end up having a spike of traffic not only on the nights of our event but also for the following days, as a result of all of this our following increases.

Although the general idea of sound-clashing is a well known format, we believe we’ve done a great job to separate ourselves from the group. We don’t sell this event as a soundclash, in fact, there is no mention of the word “soundclash” on any assets we have ever created for promotion.

We’ve wanted to curate our event in a way that is inclusive of those who haven’t come for a soundclash but instead just want to enjoy a normal night of music and dancing, with this in mind, our events are designed with having the smallest amount of unnecessary verbal disruption.

Our history: Jojo, Donnie Sunshine, Ngozi Diamond, Nics & Rae Dee are our previous winners. All of their seperate soundclash events have been a huge success and we’re soon looking to create the first of two major soundclash events which will pit all of the previous winners against each other, giving us an ultimate winner.
